WENDELL, NC – The Town of Wendell is excited to announce Gregory Kipyego as the organization’s first Information Technology (IT) Director.
Kipyego, whose tenure as Director began Jan. 12, 2026, has previously served several years as both a specialist and a manager within the IT Department, and has a wealth of knowledge from within the information technology sector. He brings more than eight years of progressive experience in technology and cybersecurity across municipal and enterprise environments.
“I’m excited to continue strengthening secure, reliable, and resilient technology services while aligning IT strategy with organizational goals,” said Kipyego. “My focus is on collaboration and innovation to deliver technology solutions that support effective public service.”
Kipyego oversees a robust assortment of IT operations town-wide. Initiatives under his purview relate to system and network security, firewall administration, directory and identity management, and IT modernization.
His responsibilities also include oversight of security monitoring, vulnerability management, and incident response coordination, as well as ensuring operations continue around the clock, all while developing and implementing policies, procedures, acceptable use standards and security training. These safeguards have made the Town of Wendell safer and have increased efficiency in providing municipal services.
Kipyego is a proud alumnus of American Intercontinental University, holding Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in Information Technology, with a specialization in Information Assurance and Security. He is certified in cybersecurity (ISC2), is a certified Chief Information Security Officer (CCISO), is Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certified and holds a graduate certificate in information security.
