RALEIGH, N.C. – William Peace picked up the pace after a slow start but fell in three sets (15-25, 22-25, 22-25) to crosstown rival Meredith in a USA South volleyball match at Weatherspoon Athletic Center on Wednesday.
The loss dropped the Pacers to 4-3 in the conference and 11-8 overall. Meredith, the defending conference champion, is now 5-3 in the USA South and 10-6 overall.
William Peace was looking to avenge a five-set loss to Meredith at home on Sept. 25. However, the Pacers fell behind 23-12 on their way to losing the first set.
The Pacers trailed 21-11 in the second set before finding their rhythm. The visitors closed within 23-21 but Meredith pulled out the second-set win.
The third set was tight from the start as the Pacers stayed within striking distance until they tied the score 22-22. Meredith, which tallied 16 aces in the match, scored the last three points to seal the win.
Jordan Juanes totaled 10 kills and added nine digs, two aces and two blocks for the Pacers, who are on a three-match losing skid. Maegan Brylski finished with 26 assists and seven digs and Savannah Hairr had eight digs.
The Pacers will host a tri-match at the Hermann Athletic Center on Saturday. They will play Southern Virginia in a USA South match at 11 a.m. and Averett in a non-conference match at 3 p.m. The Southern Virginia-Averett match will start at 1 p.m.
