In Celebration of Black History Month, Ligon’s Program Coordinator, Megan Retseck invited  Alumni to be a part of a two-day round table discussion.

February 24th and February 27th 2025 were two days 2 days of successful  conversations between Ligon’s Magnet Middle School students and Alumni.

February 24th Alumni participants were Joseph Ratliff, Claude Lee, Geneva Rogers, Patricia Nwosu, Charles Revis, Linda Mial. and Janet Jones.  We were kept on our toes by the inquisitive students.

On February 27th Mrs Retseck informed us that more groups would be joining the round table discussions.

According to her “word got around” about how interested the students were and how they enjoyed the presentations on Monday.

Commissioner Donald Mial, Toney Bethea, Dovie Banks and Janet Jones answered important questions that were presented.

The students enjoyed looking at certificates and plaques of recognition. They were asked to read from the items, but, were encouraged to read their names rather than the recipient’s name.

They were told that they could receive the same and more commendations as they move forward in life.

They were encouraged to  listen to their teachers and to hold fast to the positive advice.

The Alumni participants told them that much of their success stemmed from  examples of love and devotion that we received from our teachers.
