Get ready, Raleigh, our very own professional basketball team, the Raleigh Firebirds, are delivering electrifying performances and making a real impact in our community for the seventh year! With an impressive 17-3 record, the Firebirds are a force to be reckoned with as they head towards the playoffs, starting May 29th, in Saint Augustine’s gym.
More than just thrilling basketball, the Firebirds are deeply invested in the future of our youth. They have a mentorship partnership with Dillard Drive Middle School and Wake County Public Schools, where they guide and support 48 mostly minority young men from single-family homes. The results are truly inspiring, with significant improvements seen in school attendance and classroom performance. These young men recently celebrated the end of the year by attending a Firebirds home game, an experience that highlights the team’s commitment to these students.
Beyond the court, the Firebirds champion STEM education, health education, and financial literacy through community initiatives. The WCPSS partnership focuses on career development, offering students interested in various career paths the chance to attend themed games relevant to their aspirations. Their recent “First Responders Game” showcased this commitment, connecting students with potential future careers. This is more than just a game; it’s an opportunity for our community to come together, witness top-tier professional basketball, and support an organization that actively uplifts our young people.
