Returning for its 8th year, this powerful event—hosted by Darkness RISING Nonprofit, a 501(c)(3) arts and mental health organization—offers a free, family-friendly day of live music, wellness, giveaways, and community connection in Moore Square, Downtown Raleigh, on May 24th from 2-6 PM.
North Carolina–based mindfulness coach, leadership consultant, and debut children’s author Rashmi Kumar Shah will be hosting a free family storytime event on Saturday, May 31 at 10:30 AM at Quail Ridge Books in Raleigh. The event will feature a live reading of her debut picture book I Found My Piece, followed by a short, guided mindfulness activity designed to help children develop emotional awareness and regulation.

In honor of the federally recognized holiday Juneteenth, the third annual North Carolina Official Juneteenth Flag-Raising Ceremony will take place on Monday, June 2, 2025, outside the Durham County Courthouse (510 S. Dillard Street). The event is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m., and the flag-raising will take place at approximately 12 p.m.
The Town of Clayton and The Clayton Center are commemorating Juneteenth 2025 with a free public performance. Please join us for Jackie Robinson: A Game Apart, written and performed by Mike Wiley at 3 p.m., Saturday, June 14 at The Clayton Center.
Project ALPHA is a free, mentor-led workshop for young men entering grades 8–12. Designed to promote responsible decision-making, leadership, and healthy relationships, this program provides a safe space to discuss sexuality, respect, and ethics. In the wake of concerns about the future of the J.W. Ligon Magnet Middle School Building, located at 706 E. Lenoir Street in Raleigh, NC , a Ligon Advisory Council has been selected consisting of four J.W. Ligon High School Alumni, two Ligon Middle School faculty members, 1-2 Middle School parents, and 1-2 Middle School current students. The council’s first scheduled meeting is on August 18th.
Join us for the Fourth Ward Gospel Extravaganza on Sunday, August 24, 2025, from 4–7 PM at the A.J. Fletcher Opera Theater in Raleigh. This free community celebration will honor the rich history of Raleigh’s Fourth Ward—once home to thriving churches, businesses, and a vibrant Black community before being lost to “urban renewal” in the 1960s and ’70s. Enjoy performances from local singers and church choirs, and hear reflections from Senator Dan Blue on the enduring legacy of this historic neighborhood.
The African Children’s Choir celebrates over 40 years of hope and transformation through music, education, and worship. Comprised of children ages 8–10 from across Africa, the Choir shares powerful performances of hymns, cultural songs, and stories of faith. Concerts are free to attend, with donations supporting their mission to provide life-changing opportunities for future leaders.
