DURHAM, N.C. — Shaw University powered its way to a 49-27 victory over Lincoln University on Sept. 19, putting together a strong offensive performance in Durham.
Shaw established its ground game early, with running backs Trey Thorpe and Fabian Diggs helping move the Bears down the field. Thorpe found the end zone during the first half and later dove across the goal line for another score as Shaw built its advantage.
Diggs also played a key role in the Bears’ rushing attack. He consistently found running room against the Lincoln defense and broke free for a first down near the goal line during the second half.
Tight end Keyshaun Powell contributed to the offense as well, picking up a first down along the sideline during the first half.
Lincoln managed to generate offense of its own. Wide receiver Kyrie Tyson made a difficult touchdown catch over Shaw defensive back Isaiah Evans in the first half, helping Lincoln stay within reach early in the contest.
The Bears continued to apply pressure after halftime, however, keeping Lincoln from closing the gap. Lincoln defensive back Brandon Robinson attempted to make a play against Shaw’s Reggie King Jr. in the second half, but Shaw’s offense continued to produce.
By the final whistle, Shaw had scored 49 points to secure a 49-27 victory over Lincoln.
