Raleigh, NC - The North Carolina Retirement Systems (NCRS) has released 397,584 electronic 1099R and W2 tax documents for retirees and benefit recipients well ahead of the statutory Jan. 31 deadline. The early availability is due to enhanced efficiencies within the Retirement Systems Division, which enabled NCRS to load nearly 400,000 documents shortly after the holiday weekend.
“A top priority for our department is making things easier, safer and more efficient for our members. This early release of needed tax documents is just one example of how we are better serving North Carolinians,” said Treasurer Brad Briner. “As we continue modernizing NCRS, enhancements to security, account access, and overall system performance will further strengthen the administration of all programs.”
Registered members can access their tax documents by logging into their secure ORBIT account at ORBIT.myNCRetirement.gov. Through Jan. 31, members can sign in using their existing username and password. Beginning Feb. 1, tax documents will be available through the new single sign-on system powered by ID.me.
NCRS, the ninth-largest public pension fund in the United States and recognized as one of the best-funded systems in the nation, provides retirement benefits and savings programs to more than 1 million North Carolinians. This includes teachers, state employees, local government workers, firefighters, police officers, and other public servants. The fund is currently valued at $142 billion.
