RALEIGH, N.C. – The City of Raleigh has announced the appointment of Byron Sanders as its new Director of Engineering Services.
Mr. Sanders has served as Assistant Engineering Services Director since July 2023, overseeing the City’s Roadway Design and Construction Division, Construction Management – Public Safety and Special Projects Division, and Construction Management – Parks Division, where he played a key role in implementing the 2022 Parks Bond.
During his tenure, Sanders has provided leadership on several high-impact city initiatives, including delivery of the 2022 Parks Bond projects, the New Bern Avenue Bus Rapid Transit corridor, and the Raleigh New City Hall project.
Before joining the City of Raleigh, Sanders spent more than 18 years with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), where he contributed to major projects across the state and most recently served as State Utilities Manager.
A graduate of North Carolina State University with a degree in Civil Engineering, Sanders officially assumed his new role on October 4, 2025.
