Free

On Sunday, November 12, 2023 Davie Street Presbyterian Church (DSPC) will commemorate its 155th church anniversary during the 11 AM work worship service. The anniversary keynote speaker is Reverend Dr. J. Oscar McCloud. Rev. McCloud served as a Minister of DSPC from 1961-1965. Rev McCloud has 50 years of denomination service and is recognized nationally and internationally for his tireless contributions as both a Minister and Civil Rights leader.  During his matriculation at Union Theological Seminary (in New York, NY), Rev McCloud served as a founding member of the Student Interracial Ministry that supported student sittings within the Southern Region of the United States.

August 28th, 2023, marked the 60th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington for jobs and freedom, recognized as the largest peaceful March in American history. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his renowned speech entitled, “Normalcy, Never Again,” that is commonly referred to as “I Have A Dream Speech. The congregation of DSPC is especially honored to have Rev. McCloud as the worship speaker because he led the DSPC delegation to the historic March on August 28, 1963. Following his tenure with DSPC, Rev. McCloud continued his service as General Director of the Program Agency for the National Denomination. Reverend McCloud was among the initial Presbyterian leaders to officially visit South Africa, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, Poland, and East Germany. Rev. McCloud is Pastor Emeritus of the 5th Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York, as well as former Director of the Fund for Theological Education and Moderator of the Committee on the Office of General Assembly. Recently, Rev. McCloud’s papers have been donated to the Presbyterian Historical Society for research.

The congregation of David Street Presbyterian Church welcomes visitors to join the 11 AM worship service on Sunday, November 12, 2023.
