The Carolinian is the largest African-American newspaper in North Carolina. Our circulation covers 2/3 of the state, which is the most dense African-American population in NC, and our digital reach is nationwide. 2024 NC AAHGS Black History Month Genealogy Conference

February 2 @ 1:00 pm - February 4 @ 4:00 pm

The 2024 NC AAHGS Conference will be a three (3) day event starting with tours of the State Archives, the State Heritage Library and the vault on Friday, February 2. Saturday will include a full day of workshops (16 of them) around basic genealogy, foodways and legacy building, as well as a panel discussion and luncheon. Sunday there will be tours around the historic Black spaces in Raleigh including The Pope House (home of Dr. Manassa Pope – a Black medical graduate of Shaw University’s Leonard School of Medicine who ran for mayor in 1919), the Historic Turner House in Oberlin Village, and the Historic Black Neighborhoods of Raleigh (created from the freedmen’s villages that were started after the Civil War).

While the conference is for three days (Friday through Sunday), you may purchase tickets:

  • the entire 3 day conference
  • Friday’s tours and reception; Saturday’s workshops and luncheon
  • Saturday’s workshops and luncheon only
  • Sunday’s tours only
