SUMMARY:Annual Youth Symposium Focuses on “Making Our Youth Greater!”
DESCRIPTION:RALEIGH\, N.C. – Area girls are invited to participate in the Beta Lambda Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority\, Inc.’s annual Youth Symposium from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday\, March 9 at the Raleigh Girls Club of Wake County. The theme for this year’s symposium is Making Our Youth Greater! \nYouth Symposium is an annual one-day initiative of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority\, Inc. that’s held on the second Saturday in March by Alumnae chapters across the country and supported by their undergraduate chapters and aliates. The Sigma Youth Symposium is designed to address issues and opportunities related to STEAM\, mental and physical health/wellness\, social action and justice\, education and career planning\, financial literacy\, and culture. \n“I always get excited for our annual Youth Symposium\,” said BLS Member Farrah Pickstock\, committee chair for the BLS Youth Symposium. “This event is a great way for us to make a positive impact on young girls in our community by giving them information and resources that they can use and apply immediately.” \n\n\n\n\nYoung girls participating in BLS’s Youth Symposium will participate in groups based on their ages. Sessions for girls ages six to nine include healthy food choices\, nurturing self-esteem\, and a TikTok challenge. Sessions for girls ages 10 to 15 include etiquette\, building and maintaining positive healthy relationships\, and a step show. Both groups will participate in a STEM activity. \nThere will be a Zumba session for adults who are on-site with participating children. \n“We are excited to oer this enrichment opportunity to youth in our community and deliver information in a format that is structured but not formal\,” said Tramaine Darby\, president of the Beta Lambda Sigma chapter. “We’re able to meet these young people where they are and give them tools to make their futures greater.” \nABOUT\nSigma Gamma Rho Sorority\, Incorporated (ΣΓΡ) was organized on November 12\, 1922\, in Indianapolis\, Indiana\, by seven young educators. This organization was founded on and continues to be steadfastly committed to the tenets of excellence in Scholarship\, Sisterhood and Service. Sigma Gamma Rho has welcomed more than 100\,000 collegiate and professional women from every profession. The sorority has more than 500 chapters around the world.
